Sky Ranch Schools New Distance Learning Program

Question:  When does three days equal more than 36 hours? 
Answer:  When you can come back to Sky Ranch through distance learning.

In our effort to extend the impact of our Outdoor Education program we are implementing a new distance learning curriculum that will allow schools to extend the impact for their trip to Sky Ranch from a few days to several months. 

Through a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Services program we have been able to add over $200,000 in new technology to the outdoor education program.  This new technology will allow us to provide on-line curriculum and resources to schools that participate in Sky Ranch’s outdoor education programs at either the Texas or Oklahoma camps. 

In October, Marquita Stottern was hired as our Curriculum and Distance Learning Program Director to head up the distance learning effort.  Marquita is a certified teacher with a specialization in special education.  She holds a masters degree in distance education and served as a regional coordinator for the College for Texans Campaign. 

Work is already well underway with the distance learning effort.  With the launch of the School Programs website in November, the outdoor education program made its first appearance in cyberspace and will serve as the link to distance learning content.  Marquita is now working to develop curriculum content for the site and has started by inviting educators to serve as part of the Sky Ranch OE Curriculum Collaborative to share curriculum ideas that can be placed on the website for all schools to use.  If you are interested in learning more about our distance learning program or participating in the collaborative effort, contact:
